Credit Unions for Kids

Saving for the future is not just for adults. It is important for children to start learning how to save at a young age. Whether your children are under 12 or over 12 there are credit unions that have options for them.
Perhaps, as parents, you feel it is simply your responsibility to instill these positive habits into your children, and this is the case to some degree. It does not however mean that you should not take advantage of programs available at various places to teach children to save by rewarding them when they do so, and when they have other accomplishments. Some credit unions might offer credits that can be traded in for prizes. For older children, the prizes will likely be different and there will likely be more education involved to teach teenagers how to save for college and perhaps even how to choose a college.
For the younger children, some credit unions might offer credits for report cards. This is a great incentive to do well in school as well as keep up with their savings account. Kids today have much more spending money than kids did 20 years ago. They probably expect a lot more than they did 20 years ago. In order to help kids not to be spoiled by what they have, teaching them to save some of their money is a great option.
It is great that some credit unions offer these programs for young children and teenagers. It will not really mean much though unless you are handling your money wisely as well. No doubt if any banks near you offer programs for kids then they probably have some fairly good savings programs for adults.
Perhaps you have a big anniversary coming up. Take the time to talk with your husband or wife about where you would like to go. Make a plan, and begin setting money aside today for that special anniversary. Using an online direct deposit is a great way to handle this so that you never notice the money leaving, but it is automatically going where it needs to go. Telling your children about your plan will influence them to do the right thing when it comes to saving money.
If you have not yet joined a credit union in your area, look into it today to find out what they have to offer. You might find some great benefits waiting for you.
